Healthy Skin in 3 Steps

To some degree, healthy skin is something you're born with or you're not. But, don't allow your skin's clarity to completely be dependent on genetics and fate, there are some applicable and super easy ways to make your skin fresh and healthy regardless of mother nature.


Now, I want to preface that these tips aren't the end-all, be-all of skin care. Just because you follow all of these rules does not mean you'll wake up every day with perfect skin. Hormonal changes, stress, and other factors that are completely out of your control can unfortunately affect how clear your skin may or may not be.


BUT, that we can sure as heck help guide our skin in the right direction. Apply these easy, simple habits into your day, and feel oh so much better.


1 - Drink Half Your Weight in Water

Don’t just take it from us, read up from US News. Drinking half your body weight (pounds) in ounces not only flushes your skin of toxins, it also helps keeps your body’s regular and breaks up oil on your face and skin. Basically, water is the superhero we’ve been looking for.


Get a cute water bottle. Set an alarm. Do what you must in order to remember. All this water talk is making me thirsty!


2 - Drink 1 to 2 teaspoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

While this is a more holistic and natural way of getting rid of unwanted acne, many naturalists swear by it. They say that since cleaners take away the acidity from our skin, we need something natural to put it back. I can attest that by drinking one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar a day (mixed in a glass of water) my forehead is noticeably clearer. Basically, my body decided that my mid-twenties was a good time to start giving me an acne problem. Thanks.


But, WARNING, apple cider vinegar is super nasty. Take one to two teaspoons and put it in a glass of water at minimum. I’ve also heard of putting it in warm water with honey to mask the taste. My friend puts in in cranberry juice, which hides the tart taste well. Whatever works for you - go for it. Just fair warning that it tastes gross. Nobody warned me. It did not go well the first time.


3 - Wear Sunscreen


You’ve probably heard this a thousand times. But, seriously. Wear sunscreen. Don’t want to listen to me (or your mother)? How about the Huffington Post? Sunscreen not only protects our skin from skin cancer -- which is serious, by the way -- but it also helps to prevent skin discolorations and blotchiness.


Whether it be in your moisturizer or another step in your daily routine, sunscreen is a must -- especially if you walk to work or class. If you’re in the sun at all, you need sunscreen.
